The daily disposal capacity of paper towels are weighing up to 40 double-decker bus

Based on the “Hong Kong Citizen paper towels daily disposal habits survey” conducted by Junior Chamber International Lion Rock, WGO helped analyse and deliver the findings at the press conference. The survey investigated Hong Kong’s paper consumption, the cleanliness of hand dryers and paper towels, and the possibility of recycling in the city. The survey was intended to enhance public awareness on the abuse of paper towels usage.

Sustainable Business Award 2016 now open

From 2016 onwards, all listed companies in Hong Kong are required to comply with the latest ESG reporting guidelines to enhance business transparency regarding their social responsibility. Last year, WGO noticed this change, and initiated the first "Sustainable Business Award” aimed at promoting outstanding ESG achievements in the business field. This award was well received by the corporations.

The ten-awarded enterprises included A.S. Watson Group, Airport Authority Hong Kong, Canon Hong Kong Company Limited, China Overseas Holdings Limited, Henderson Land Group- Property Management Department (Hang Yick and Well Born), Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Hysan Development Company Limited, Inchcape Motor Services Limited, Kerry Properties Limited, and The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited.

The Green Heroes 2016 - Treasure Hunt and Fun Day

The Green Heroes 2016 - Treasure Hunt and Fun Day was fully supported by different enterprises and Hoi Pa Street Government Primary School that held on 27th February at Chinese Y.M.C.A. Wu Kai Sha Youth Village. The officiating guests included Ir LAI Hon-chung JP, EMSD’s Assistant Director, and Mr. Paul LEE, EMBA representative from School of Business, City University of Hong Kong.

The enterprise teams completed eight specific tasks within 17 checkpoints to capture waste reduction "treasure". The primary school students and parents participated in various upcycling workshops, and the audience formed a human banner that spelt out "LESS WASTE", marked as the ultimate theme of the event.

Cambridge Scholarly Luncheon and Forum on "Energy Policy" 2: Climate Change Beyond COP21 : Implications for Hong Kong

This event held at the Island Shangri-La Hotel was jointly organised by WGO and HKU-CambridgeU CEERP with the sponsorship of TSE Foundation.

Dr. David Reiner from Cambridge University shared UK’s hands-on experience for tackling climate change, carbon capture and storage. Professor Victor Li and Dr. Jacqueline Lam from The University of Hong Kong shared their views about air pollution and social justice issues. Mr. Lee Sai Ming, Senior Scientific Officer of the Hong Kong Observatory, talked about the latest situation about climate change and the reasons behind extreme weather conditions, the participants were greatly benefited from their sharing session.

School Waste Analysts Training Programme

Secondary School students participated in school waste audits and found out the amount of waste that accumulated in their campus. At the end, they will try to sort out ways in reducing campus waste. It is really encouraging to learn that one of the secondary schools that participated successfully in reduced nearly 20% of its waste.
