Sub-divided flat study triggered sanitation concerns; WGO produced micro film to raise awareness
Many underprivileged households in Hong Kong are living under harsh environments. World Green Organisation (WGO), together with Hong Kong Baptist University's (HKBU) research team completed a survey and analysis of the indoor air quality and environmental hygiene in subdivided units in Hong Kong. The study indicated that the total indoor bacterial count can reach more than 6,535 CFU/m3, which is three times higher than the bacterial count recorded in similar past researches. High airborne bacterial counts poses potential environmental hygiene hazards to residents and increases the risk of communicable diseases being transmitted. In addition, the indoor bacterial endotoxin concentrations recorded were generally higher than in previous studies in Hong Kong. This concentration level may affect the respiratory system and thus the health of residents, especially children with asthma.

To raise public's awareness of the adverse situation, WGO produced a micro film called "Save It!" which was produced by famous actor Mr. Lam Ka Tung, directed by Mr. Lik Ho and director of photography was by the award-winning Mr. Cheng Siu Keung. On 27 May, the Undersecretary for the Home Affairs Bureau, Ms. Florence Hui Hiu Fai, SBS officiated the opening of the movie's premiere. Representatives from social services and business sectors also came and supported the work to help the underprivileged. Please click here for more details.

Social Innovation Inventor – Competition For Innovative Design's final results will be out soon!
On 25 May, a total of 20 teams from both the tertiary group and secondary group were invited to present their concepts to the final judging panel at the Hong Kong Science Park. The results will be announced in early June via WGO's website. The champion teams will be off to a 5-day Cambridge trip in July. Carbon offset has been purchased for the carbon emissions generated during this trip.

Sponsored by MTR and other corporations, this competition received overwhelming responses as a total of 108 teams submitted their applications.
